Cassie Schirm is an award-winning journalist, who has reported across the country from Africa to Alaska to learn new cultures and tell others stories.
Cassie is from Dallas, Texas but comes to Lafayette from Anchorage, Alaska where she was the breaking news reporter for the CBS station. There she traveled across the state covering wildfires, plane crashes, and outdoor adventures.
Cassie has reported in two Emmy winning newscasts for breaking news during a 7.2 earthquake, she’s been nominated for an Emmy for breaking news coverage and has won a NATAS Mid America Emmy for breaking news reporting covering a plane crash in a busy intersection in Fayetteville.
Cassie puts her heart in her stories. She shoots, writes, and edits her stories. She also is a fill-in anchor and is weather trained.
You’ll often see her out in the community reporting live, giving her community the facts they need to know to keep safe and stories that matter.
She graduated from the University of Arkansas with a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism. While she was there she interned at KNWA and helped run the school’s tv station.
She moved to Bozeman, Montana in 2016 where she reported stories from Yellowstone National Park and all across the state.
In Alaska, she was the main breaking news reporter. There she covered tragic plane crashes with national networks across the last frontier, natural disasters including major flooding, wildfires, and a major earthquake, and created a new segment where she hiked, kayaked, and even paraglide with Alaskans showing off the beautiful outdoors in Alaska. There she had the opportunity to report live for Canada’s National network CTV during the 2019 7.2 earthquake.
She has a passion for cultures, trying new things and traveling. She has reported on the Serengeti where she interviewed locals there when the Government of Tanzania was looking at building a highway through the Serengeti which would kill off its ecosystem by stopping the great migration. She has also reported in Santa Cruz, Bolivia the poorest country in South America on a soccer academy that is taking kids off the streets and producing 5 to 8 professional players a year.
Cassie came to the Cajun Country in 2019 and has fallen in love with the culture, food, music, people, and southern hospitality.
She’s enjoyed reporting on the festivals before the pandemic, investigated into the background of a serial rapist, covered a plane crash that killed several people in Lafayette, dug into police brutality on minorities in Acadiana, reported first-hand stories from nurses on the frontlines battling COVID and many more stories.
When she’s not working in Lafayette she’s kayaking out at Lake Martin, fishing, hiking with her pup Coco, listening to live music or eating beignets or crawfish.
